Ryan Gosling, who stars in the upcoming Warner Bros action dramedy “The Nice Guys,” in which he plays a ‘70s-era L.A. private eye on the trail of a missing woman, spoke Friday about his upcoming role in the new “Blade Runner.”

Initially hesitant—he quipped that on the roof on an adjacent building was a sniper who would not hesitate to take him out if he spoke about the highly anticipated futuristic thriller follow up to the 1982 Oscar-nominated film—he did acknowledge his excitement about being part of the upcoming film project.

“I can’t believe I get to be a part of it, you know. I’m a huge fan of the first film,” he said. “First of all it’s exciting that Ridley (Scott) and Harrison (Ford) wanted to extend the story. They felt like there was more to tell. And I’m a huge fan of (director) Denis Villeneuve (‘Sicario’) and Roger Deakins (the cinematographer) and the whole thing to me is… I can’t believe I get to be a part of it in some way.”

Confirmed earlier this year, the film (which is as yet untitled) is set to begin filming this summer with a targeted 2017 release. The original sci-fi classic, directed by Scott starred Ford, Sean Young and Rutger Hauer, was based on Philip K. Dick’s “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” Ford is set to reprise his role with Scott onboard as a producer.

Filming is set to take place in Budapest, but the always-charming Gosling (“Drive,” “The Big Short”) clammed up on sharing details about the plot.

“Honestly, I can’t say,” he said, flashing his trademark smile.
