“Bad Education” follows Frank Tassone (Jackman) and Pam Gluckin (Janney), who reign over a popular Long Island school district on the verge of the nation’s top spot, spurring record college admissions and soaring property values. Between them, they racked up over $11.2 million dollars in extravagant personal expenses.

Allen (“Short Attention Span Theater”) and Howard Burd (“Mother’s Day”), “Ballbuster” follows a self-centered basketball star named Rich (O’Connell) whose fame and popularity is waning amongst the league, fans and his family – not only because of his inability to pass the ball, but his consistently bad attitude. A publicity nightmare, the professional league has no choice but to pull a red card and suspend Rich from the Final Championship. If he really wants to make it to game seven, he has to redeem himself by playing with a charity basketball team and keeping his cool during the most bizarre of circumstances. Brute Force

The newly restored Blu-ray edition of “Brute Force” arrives Tuesday Sept. 8, from the Criterion Collection.

The 1947 black-and-white film was one of Jules Dassin’s first forays into the crime genre, a prison melodrama with a scathing critique of the punitive American incarceration system at its heart. Burt Lancaster stars as timeworn Joe Collins, who, along with his fellow inmates, lives under the heavy thumb of the sadistic, power-tripping guard Captain Munsey (Hume Cronyn). Only Collins’s dreams of escape keep him going, but how can he possibly bust out of Munsey’s chains? Matter-of-fact and ferocious, “Brute Force” builds to an explosive climax that shows the lengths men will go to when fighting for their freedom.
