Available on DVD and digital download is “Queens of the Ring,” starring Marilou Berry, Nathalie Baye and Audrey Fleurot. This comedy, produced by W Studios, centers on a group of women who decide to learn to wrestle like legitimate WWE divas in order for one of them to reconnect with her estranged son. Their journey from cashiers to lady wrestlers is funny and heartwarming. The comedy also features cameos by wrestling superstars The Miz, CM Punk and Eve Torres. The DVD includes a special feature “WWE Superstars and Divas on ‘Queens of the Ring.’”
Also available now is the DVD and Blu-ray editions of “Drive Hard,” starring John Cusack and Thomas Jane star. This action adventure set in Australia centers on former hotshot racecar driver Peter Roberts (Jane) who has accumulated a mountain of debt and works an unfulfilling job as a beginners’ driving instructor.
His life shifts into overdrive when mysterious stranger Simon Keller (Cusack) shows up for a driving lesson and hijacks Peter to be his getaway driver in a $9 million heist.
These unlikely fugitives are on a white-knuckle race to stay one step ahead of mobsters, who want their money back and the corrupt cops who will kill anyone who gets in their way. Peter and Simon just might have a chance if they can stick to their plan, outwit their pursuers, and not kill each other first.
Originally “Drive Hard” was supposed to be set in the U.S., starring Jean Claude van Damme, but when the action star dropped out, director Brian Trenchard-Smith rewrote it and cast Jane and Cusack, and moved the action to the Gold Coast of Australia.
For the young and young-at-heart set, “Frozen in Time” (no connection to Disney’s “Frozen”), an animated feature from Arc Entertainment, is available on DVD. It tells the story of siblings Eric (Drake Bell of “Nickelodeon’s “Drake and Josh”) and Patty (Academy Award winner Mira Sorvino), who embark on a thrilling adventure after a mishap with their grandfather’s clock. Their world is thrown into a crazy time continuum where Christmas day is repeated over and over again. The only way they can restore order is to travel to the North Pole and repair the clock in Santa’s workshop.
With less than a day to go, Eric, Patty, and their grandfather (“Up’s” Ed Asner) frantically zip off to the frozen wonderland. All they have to do is figure out the complicated solution, carefully mend the clock and get back home in time to fix Christmas.
Also, keeping in the holiday spirit, the family friendly “An Evergreen Christmas” is now available on DVD. The live-action drama stars Robert Loggia, Naomi Judd, Charleene Closshey and Booboo Stewart. Directed by Jeremy Culver, the drama centers on Evie Lee (Closshey), a Hollywood celebrity who returns to her small hometown of Balsam Falls, Tenn., and her family’s once-thriving Christmas tree farm to attend her father’s funeral. As the eldest child, she finds herself the executor of an estate that owes a massive inheritance tax, much to her younger brother’s dismay. Torn between pursing her music career and saving her family’s legacy, Evie must decide what it really means to find her place in the world.
“Sons of Anarchy” The Collector’s Set is available on Blu-ray and DVD from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Relive every episode from the first six seasons of the popular FX cable series. The special edition box set comes in a recreation of the iconic SAMCRO Reaper clubhouse table, perfect to serve as a centerpiece in any true fan’s home.
The “Sons of Anarchy” final season premiered on FX in September and arrives on Blu-ray and DVD in early 2015. If the ratings in the key demo of 18-49 year-olds eclipse last season’s numbers, Kurt Sutter, the creator of the series, promises to host a once-in-a-lifetime viewing party for the series finale. Scheduled for Dec. 9, VIP fans at the exclusive event will have the opportunity to meet the cast and crew behind the epic series and participate in a taping of “Anarchy Afterword.”
