The combustible love story of Ivy and Theo Rose ignites at home, as “The Roses” is now available to own on Digital from Searchlight Pictures and Walt Disney Studios. A reimagining of the 1989 film “The War of the Roses” based on the novel by Warren Adler, the dark comedy arrives on Blu-ray and DVD Tuesday, Nov. 25.
Life seems easy for picture-perfect couple Ivy (Academy Award winner Olivia Colman, “The Favourite”) and Theo (Academy Award nominee Benedict Cumberbatch, “The Power of the Dog”): successful careers, a loving marriage, great kids. But beneath the façade of their supposed ideal life, a storm is brewing — as Theo’s career nosedives while Ivy’s own ambitions take off, a tinderbox of fierce competition and hidden resentment ignites.
Director Jay Roach (“Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery”) brings sharp comedic instincts and a distinctly British edge to this modern portrait of a family in freefall. Balancing biting satire with moments of outrageous humor, he crafts a story of real life gone spectacularly wrong. Bonus features on the Digital and Blu-ray releases include three featurettes and a gag reel. Viewers can see the construction of the Roses’ home, hear from the designer and the filmmakers on their vision and discover the actors’ wish to take everything from the house home with them in “A House to Fight For;” learn about the actors’ connection and chemistry in “‘The Roses:’ An Inside Look;” and take a closer look at the comedic talent who brought Tony McNamara’s (“Poor Things”) witty dialogue to life in “Comedy Gold.”
