CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND returns to theaters for a limited engagement starting Sept. 1. CR: Sony Pictures Entertainment

“Close Encounters of the Third Kind” returns to theaters for an exclusive one week engagement beginning Friday Sept. 1 in celebration of the 40th anniversary of legendary director Steven Spielberg’s epic science fiction adventure.  After an encounter with U.F.O.s, a line worker (Richard Dreyfuss) feels undeniably drawn to an isolated area in the Wyoming wilderness where something spectacular is about to happen. The sci-fi classic, which won an Oscar in 1978 for cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond, also stars Teri Garr, Melinda Dillon and Francois Truffaut as French scientist Lacombe.

The director’s cut has been restored and remastered in 4K, and will be presented with exclusive behind the scenes footage, as well as modern reflections on the film that continues to remind us that “we are not alone.”
