Debuting on Blu-ray and DVD Tuesday, Dec. 8, “Doc Martin Series 7,” the acclaimed British TV dramedy starring Martin Clunes as a tactless, self-centered and uptight physician in a quirky seaside Cornwall town. The series also features Caroline Catz (“Murder in Suburbia”) as Martin’s estranged wife Louisa, and Dame Eileen Atkins (Upstairs, Downstairs”) as his formidable Aunt Ruth.
The seventh series (season) finds the good doctor seeking therapy for his chronic grumpiness, which has adversely affected his marriage. He may have met his match in the young and smart Dr. Rachel Timoney (Emily Bevan, “The Casual Vacancy”), but it’s uncertain whether she can cure him of his blood phobia and caustic personality, which has crippled his marriage.
Series 7 guest stars include Sigourney Weaver (“Aliens,” “Ghostbusters”), an avowed fan of the longrunning series, who plays an American tourist visiting the scenic Cornish village in which Martin dwells.
Having made its U.S. debut in October on Acorn.TV, the streaming service for British television programs and more, Series 7 is chock full of other predicaments for the doctor and his family. The Blu-ray and DVD include all eight episodes plus more than an hour’s worth of behind-the-scenes featurettes and more. The two-disc Blu-ray and the 3-disc DVD are each available for a suggested retail price of $39.99.
Series 7 begins airing on public television in January 2016. The Acorn co-produced, new public television pledge special, “Doc Martin: Seven Grumpy Seasons,” recently aired to coincide with the home entertainment launch.
