Breaking Bread (Documentary)

The documentary “Breaking Bread” is available now on DVD, from The Cohen Group.

Dr. Nof Atamna-Ismaeel, the first Muslim Arab to win Israel’s MasterChef, is on a quest to make social change through food. She founded the A-sham Arabic Food Festival, where pairs of Arab and Jewish chefs collaborate on exotic dishes like kishek (a Syrian yogurt soup) and qatayef (a dessert typically served during Ramadan). A film about hope, synergy and mouthwatering fare, “Breaking Bread” illustrates what happens when people focus on others as people, rather than as a symbol of their religion; and on the public, rather than the politicians.

“Breaking Bread” is in Arab and Hebrew with English subtitles.

Coming 2 America (Comedy)

The long-awaited (33 years) follow-up to the beloved classic “Coming to America” makes its Blu-ray and DVD debut when “Coming 2 America” arrives Tuesday March 8, from Paramount Home Entertainment.

In hilarious sequel, newly crowned King Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and his trusted confidante Semmi (Arsenio Hall) traverse the globe from the (fictional) African nation of Zamunda to the borough of Queens, New York when Akeem learns he has a long-lost son in the United States.

In addition to Murphy and Hall reprising their roles, the comedy features a remarkable cast including James Earl Jones, John Amos, Louie Anderson, Shari Headley, Wesley Snipes, Tracy Morgan and Leslie Jones.

The “Coming 2 America” on Blu-ray includes commentary by director Craig Brewer (“Dolemite Is My Name,” “Empire”) and an exclusive featurette entitled “From Queens to Zamunda,” which includes never-before-seen footage and interviews. The “Coming 2 America” DVD includes the feature film in standard definition.

Hester Street (Period Drama)

The classic period drama “Hester Street” arrives on DVD Tuesday March 8, from Cohen Media Group.

Set in 1890s New York City, the film evocatively recreates on a shoestring budget a story of Jewish immigrant Jake (Steven Keats) who has assimilated seamlessly into the American community, until his wife from back home (Carol Kane) arrives on his doorstep. Sumptuously shot in black and white, director Joan Micklin Silver’s loving, funny debut feature became an unexpected hit when it was initially released in 1975, and was a rare independent American film to garner an Oscar nomination for Kane’s heartbreaking, but ultimately empowering turn. The film also stars Mel Howard, Dorrie Kavanaugh and Doris Roberts.

Cohen Film Collection presents a gorgeous new 4K restoration of this American classic, which is in Yiddish and English with English subtitles. Additionally, the Blu-ray features two new interviews with Micklin Silver by Shonni Enelow, archival audio commentary track with Micklin Silver and producer Raphael Silver, archival interviews with key cast and crew members and the original opening title sequence and outtakes with audio commentary by Daniel Kremer, author of an upcoming book about Micklin Silver, who passed away in 2020.

A Journal for Jordan (Romantic Drama)

Directed by Denzel Washington and starring Michael B. Jordan with a screenplay by Virgil Williams, “A Journal for Jordan” arrives on Blu-ray and DVD Tuesday March 8, from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

The drama is based on the true story of First Sgt. Charles Monroe King (Jordan), a soldier deployed to Iraq who begins to keep a journal of love and advice for his infant son. Back at home, senior “New York Times” editor Dana Canedy (Chanté Adams) revisits the story of her unlikely, life-altering relationship with King and his enduring devotion to her and their child. A sweeping account of a once-in-a-lifetime love, the film is a powerful reminder of the importance of family.

Bonus features on the Blu-ray and digital editions include deleted scenes, a gag reel, “Family Portrait: Making the Film,” “Heart and Soul: Charles and Dana,” and “Words of Wisdom: The Journal.” The DVD edition contains the featurette, “Family Portrait: Making the Film.” The drama also is available now on Digital formats.

The Matrix Resurrections (Sci-Fi/Fantasy)

Experience the long-awaited fourth film in the groundbreaking sci-fi franchise that redefined a genre when “The Matrix Resurrections” arrives on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD beginning Tuesday March 8, from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.

Return to a world of two realities: one, everyday life; the other, what lies behind it. To find out if his reality is a physical or mental construct, to truly know himself, Mr. Anderson (Keanu Reeves) will have to choose to follow the white rabbit once more. And if Thomas—Neo—has learned anything, it’s that choice, while an illusion, is still the only way out of—or into—the Matrix. Of course, Neo already knows what he has to do. But what he doesn’t yet know is the Matrix is stronger, more secure and more dangerous than ever before. Déjà vu.

The sci-fi/fantasy is directed by Lana Wachowski from a screenplay by Wachowski, David Mitchell and Aleksander Hemon, based on characters created by The Wachowskis, and stars Keanu Reeves (the “Matrix” and “John Wick” franchises) and Carrie-Anne Moss (the “Matrix” franchise, “Jessica Jones”).

The film also stars Yahya Abdul Mateen II (“Candyman,” the “Aquaman” franchise), Jessica Henwick (“Iron Fist,” “Star Wars: Episode VII—The Force Awakens”), Jonathan Groff (“Hamilton,” “Mindhunter”), Neil Patrick Harris (“Gone Girl”), Priyanka Chopra Jonas (TV’s “Quantico”) and Jada Pinkett Smith (“Angel Has Fallen,” TV’s “Gotham”).

“The Matrix Resurrections” 4K UHD combo pack and Blu-ray includes the following special features: “No One Can Be Told What The Matrix Is,” “Resurrecting The Matrix,” “Neo x Trinity: Return to the Matrix,” “Allies + Adversaries: The Matrix Remixed,” “Matrix for Life,” and more. The DVD edition contains “The Matrix Reactions: Welcome to IO.”

The 4K UHD Combo Pack will be available for $29.99 (SRP), the Blu-ray edition for $24.99 (SRP) and the DVD for $19.99 (SRP).
