Ismael’s Ghosts

“Ismael’s Ghosts” a French drama about a man who revisits his past and current loves, enduring the unexpected trials and tribulations, arrives on DVD and digital formats Tuesday July 3. Twenty-one years ago, a woman named Carlotta ran away. She is now back from the void. The film stars Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard (“Deux Jours,” “Une Nuit”) as Carlotta and Mathieu Amalric (“The Grand Budapest Hotel”) as Ismael.  In the intervening years since her disappearance, Ismael has been busy rebuilding a life for himself with Sylvia (Charlotte Gainsbourg, “Melancholia”) and working on his next feature film. As his trials and tribulations unfurl, so too do those of his film’s protagonist: the idle, funny and reckless diplomat Ivan Dedalus (Louis Garrel, “Godard Mon Amour”). The character is a nod to the ghost of another of Desplechin’s creations, the brother of Paul Dedalus, three-time hero of “My Sex Life… or How I Got into an Argument,” “A Christmas Tale” and “My Golden Days.” A film within a film and then some, Desplechin layers narrative upon narrative.  With “Ismael’s Ghosts,” Desplechin returns once more to the past, creating film after film as his way of stepping back in time. The film is available for the suggested retail price (SRP) of $26.98.

Blockers

John Cena (“Trainwreck,” “Sisters”), Leslie Mann (“The Other Woman,” “This Is 40”) and Ike Barinholtz (“Neighbors,” “Suicide Squad”) play helicopter parents will do anything to foil their daughters’ prom night sex pact in “Blockers,” the hit comedy coming to Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand Tuesday July 3, from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment Digital. It will be subsequently available on the all-new digital movie app Movies Anywhere on June 19. “Blockers” is a gender-swapped spin on the classic teen sex comedy, filled with outrageous antics from the parents as their daughters take control of their epic prom night. The Blu-ray, DVD and Digital feature unrated bonus content with even more wild shenanigans including deleted scenes, gag reel, line-o-rama and more. Front Row Features’ film critic Heather Turk called “Blockers” a “pretty smart coming-of-age story that ultimately treats teenagers with a lot of respect.”

Making her directorial debut, Kay Cannon (writer of the “Pitch Perfect” series), along with the producers of “Neighbors” and “This Is the End,” bring laugh-out-loud moments in the outrageous comedy “Blockers.”  The comedy also features Kathryn Newton (“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” “Big Little Lies”), Geraldine Viswanathan (“EMO the Musical”), Gideon Adlon (“American Crime,” “Girl Meets World”), Graham Phillips (“Riverdale,” “The Good Wife”), Miles Robbins (“Mozart in the Jungle”) and Jimmy Bellinger (“The Middle”). Joining in on the fun are comedic supporting cast members Gary Cole (“Veep,” “Office Space”), Gina Gershon (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”), Hannibal Buress (“Broad City,” “Neighbors 2”), Colton Dunn (“Key and Peele,” “Superstore”) and June Diane Raphael (“Grace and Frankie,” “New Girl”).

The China Hustle

The documentary “The China Hustle” is available on DVD Tuesday July 3 from Magnolia Home Entertainment. In the midst of the 2008 market crash, investors on the fringes of the financial world feverishly sought new alternatives for high-return investments in the global markets. With Chinese indexes demonstrating explosive growth, the country suddenly emerged as a gold rush opportunity with one caveat: U.S. investors were prohibited from investing directly into the country’s market. Makeshift solutions led to a market frenzy, until one investor discovered the massive web of fraud left in its wake. Jed Rothstein’s (“Before the Spring: After the Fall”) documentary rings the alarm on the need for transparency in an increasingly deregulated financial world by following those working to uncover the biggest heist you’ve never heard of. Special features include interviews with director Jed Rothstein and producer Alex Gibney.

Finding Your Feet

Academy Award nominee Imelda Staunton (‘Vera Drake”) stars in “Finding Your Feet,” available on DVD and Digital Tuesday July 3.
