The 2006 historical epic “One Night With the King” has arrived on Blu-ray. Lushly shot and beautifully scored in the grand style of classic Hollywood biblical epics including “Ben-Hur,” “The Ten Commandments” and “Spartacus,” the drama tells the story of Hadassah (played by newcomer Tiffany DuPont), who rises from poverty to become a beauty who captures the eye of the powerful King Xerxes of Persia (Luke Goss).

Ultimately, she becomes his queen, whom he renames Esther. Yet her life is in danger as the state has decided to exterminate its Jewish population, and she is Jewish by birth. Defying warnings to remain silent about her origin, Hadassah struggles to save her people. This tale of courage, faith and destiny boasts an all-star cast including John Rhys-Davies, Peter O’Toole and Omar Sharif.

Shot entirely in India (standing in for the ancient world of Susa), “One Night With the King” is a good, old-fashioned Hollywood sword-and-sandal epic for the whole family. It is rated PG for violence, some sensuality and thematic elements.

The bonus feature on the Blu-ray is limited to an audio commentary featuring producers Matthew Crouch and Richard Cook as well as screenwriter Stephan Blinn.  The suggested retail price is $16.99 and is available Tuesday, March 5.
