Do the Right Thing (Drama)

In 1989, budding filmmaker Spike Lee mesmerized audiences with one of the most insightful and provocative films of its time, “Do the Right Thing.” Universal Pictures Home Entertainment presents this now classic urban film in 4K Ultra HD for the first time Tuesday Feb. 2.

The story is set on one scorching day in the inner city, where racial tensions have reached a boiling point in a tough Brooklyn neighborhood. Featuring more than four hours of bonus features, this new edition includes a brand-new introduction by the Academy Award winning filmmaker, a retrospective documentary with the original cast and crew, a feature commentary by Lee, deleted and extended scenes. The film will also be available in 4K Ultra HD format on Digital.

“Do the Right Thing’s” original perspective on American race relations earned two Academy Award nominations, including Best Original Screenplay. The ensemble cast created a gallery of unforgettable characters, with standout performances by Danny Aiello (Oscar nominated for Best-Supporting Actor for his role in the film), Ossie Davis (“Get on the Bus”), Ruby Dee (“American Gangster”), Rosie Perez (“Fearless”), John Turturro (“Barton Fink”) and Samuel L. Jackson (“Pulp Fiction”).

Horror Noire (Documentary)

RLJE Films, a unit of AMC Networks, will release “Horror Noire,” from Shudder, AMC Networks’ streaming service for horror, thriller and the supernatural, on DVD and Blu-ray Tuesday Feb. 2.

Delving into a century of genre films that by turns utilized, caricatured, exploited, sidelined, and finally embraced them, “Horror Noire” traces the untold history of Black Americans in Hollywood through their connection to the horror genre. Adapting professor Robin Means Coleman’s seminal book, “Horror Noire: Blacks in American Horror Films from the 1890s to Present,” presents the living and the dead, using new and archival interviews from scholars and creators, from the voices who survived the genre’s past trends to those shaping its future.

Written by adjunct professor of film Ashlee Blackwell and Danielle Burrows and directed by Xavier Burgin (“Giants”), “Horror Noire” features Tony Todd (“Candyman”), Rachel True (“The Craft”), Ernest Dickerson (“Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight,” “The Walking Dead”), Rusty Cundieff (“Tales from the Hood,” “Chappelle’s Show”), Tina Mabry (“Mississippi Damned,” “Queen of the South”), Paula Jai Parker (“Hustle & Flow”), Tananarive Due (“The Twilight Zone”) and Dr. Coleman.

RLJE Films will release “Horror Noire” on DVD for a suggested retail price (SRP) of $27.97 and on Blu-ray for $28.96 (SRP).

Navigating tragedy and tumult, the couple soon discover that the Weboy family, a deep-rooted local clan led by ruthless matriarch Blanche (Academy Award nominee Lesley Manville; “Phantom Thread,” “Ordinary Love”) has no intention of letting the child go, forcing George and Margaret to ask how far they will go to fight for their family.
